Benefits of the IX Industrial Ethernet Connector

The use of Ethernet cabling is only accelerating in industrial applications. A common occurrence with such applications is the need for a high number of parallel Ethernet connections in a small footprint, or just the ability to have more compact devices with Ethernet ports. The current standard Ethernet connector, the RJ-45 has been around for some time and is ubiquitous with Ethernet. However, this connector is considerably bulkier than is necessary and often suffers from retention issues without additional locking features.

An exciting new Ethernet connector has recently become available to the industry that addresses these challenges. This new connector, the IX Industrial Ethernet Connector, is designed to be extremely compact compared to the conventional RJ-45 modular connector with a reduction of around 75% in size. This results from a much more compact connector format and also enables a parallel pitch around 10mm, which optimizes the overall footprint for end-products with multiple connectors.

The IX industrial connector is capable of 10 Gbps and is designed to support Category 6a Ethernet connectivity. The IX Connector is compliant with IEC 61076-3-124 and is accepted as the official machine vision connector per AIA. This connector also improves over the RJ-45 connector in mating retention and is much easier to terminate. This connector style is the best locking 10Gig Ethernet connector available that doesn’t require a larger than RJ-45 footprint or additional locking screws. An important note is that the IX Connector mates with an audible click for a positive confirmation that the connection is solid.

As the IX Connector is compatible with typical Ethernet cable, premium quality industrial, outdoor, high-flex, economy PVC, and LSZH family cables can be used in conjunction with these connectors to form cable assemblies and patch cables. Additionally, the IX Connector is 100% Power-over-Ethernet (POE) compatible and capable.
